We’re Divemasters, Baby!!!

6 Aug

Well, not quite, but we got our open water certification this weekend, meaning we can dive down to 60 feet on our own. The first weekend was good fun, but it was this past couple of days when it got really interesting. Two boat dives yesterday, and two shore dives today. A little anxious yesterday, especially going down the rope with everyone flailing around, but today was great. Swimming in schools of fish, looking down to see a giant bat ray just a couple of feet away. Loved it.

The reason we got certified was so that we could dive on our own when we go on vacation to Belize in a couple of weeks. Here’s what did it for us:

It’s the Blue Hole, one of the most famous dive spots in the world. Just stunning: saw that picture and pretty much right away decided to book the vacation. Can’t wait.

Lucky buggers, I have had my eye on diving in Belize for a while, was thinking of heading down that way early next year, the Blue Hole is suposed to be a spectacular wall dive. Are you going on a live aboard or staying on shore and boat diving?

Staying on the shore most of the time. We’ll be up in San Pedro (Madonna’s ‘isla bonita’), so we’ll be able to get most of the spots pretty easily.

The weather isn’t cooperating though. August is supposed to be an ok month, but it’s absolutely chucking it down. Storms-a-go-go.
